About

Hi, and welcome to 5minutepianolessons.com. My name is Dan Starr. I’m a full time teacher of adult piano students and have been since 1987. This new website is the product of my partnership with  long-time friend and web expert, Jay Walsh. Together, we’ve manged to create a website that is both superbly useful AND uniquely easy to use.

You should also know that this site is dedicated to AMERICAN style piano teaching – meaning everything is individualized. This means NO references to competitions, “noted experts,” and the like. You WILL find the info you need to play piano for your own enjoyment. Also, you’ll find honesty and the reality of the need to master the fundamentals related to your specific use of the piano – playing the music you want to play.

Four fundamentals are stressed here:

  1. Practicing Piano
  2. Performing on Piano
  3. Reading Piano Music
  4. Enjoying Your Study of the Piano

…plus, a whole bunch of specialized topics that you’ll have a hard time finding elsewhere.

I’ve taught adults, teens, and kids to play piano for 20-plus years by stressing two things: Fun and Fundamentals. That’s what you’ll find on this site, in easy to digest bites that are highly relevant to piano problems YOU are likely to encounter.

When you get a chance, please visit my personal site, danstarr.com and check out my bio page. There you can learn why I’m uniquely qualified to offer you piano advice, as well see a further example of how my partner Jay designs things to make your online experience easy, straightforward, and productive.

This site is for:

  • Struggling piano students
  • Folks that took piano lessons years ago and are just rediscovering the piano
  • Experienced pianists looking to take their talent to the next level

You might not be ready for this site if:

  • You’re an absolute beginner.
  • You’ve had difficulty with self-paced individual study

Let me be clear about one thing – some of you may need a good piano teacher to succeed. I’ve seen piano students stick to the internet even when their failures should have told them they needed “live” lessons. For those of you in this situation, I’ve included FREE information on how to select the teacher right for you.

Thanks for visiting and I hope you make this a regular stop in your piano progress. Also, I’d love to hear from you. Feel free to email me with your comments, questions, or concerns.

Thanks again!

Dan Starr
